My wife is the co-chair for the St.Louis Walk Now for Autism Speaks. They help raise money and awareness for Autism and it's effects on both children/adults and families. Some of the stats are:

# 1 percent of births (estimated 1 in 91)
# 1 to 1.5 million Americans
# Fastest-growing developmental disability
# 10 - 17 % annual growth
# $90 billion annual cost
# 90% of costs are in adult services
# Cost of lifelong care can be reduced by 2/3 with early diagnosis and intervention
# In 10 years, the annual cost will be $200-400 billion

So, now you know a little.

Next spring or summer we ( my wife and myself ) are wanting to hold an event to benefit Autism Awareness and help raise money to find a cure. The event right now will be named " WHEELIN FOR AUTISM AWARENESS " and all money raised will go directly to helping find a cure.

I've met many many families and people effected by Autism and it truly is touchy to see the struggles they go through on a daily basis. Insurance doesn't even cover Autism treatment. Many states are trying to pass legislation to require insurance companies to cover it. It's been a battle!

Right now this is purely in the planning and development stages. We'll obvious will need to find an off road park or someone with land that will let us wheel on it and hold the event there. The plan right now is to have a day or 2 of 4 wheeling, bands, food, public out reach and helping people and families effected by this disorder. We also will have to find a central location so anyone from around the U.S. that wishes to attend can. Both off roaders and families dealing with Autism.

Sponsorship will be left to the wife sense she is good at that stuff.

Feel free to comment and suggest idea's and help plan this with us if you would like. This will be a fun fun time as well as helping people and children.

Figured if I can get this set up we could all have a great wheeling weekend along with helping a great cause!

Now the trick will be to get people involved.

Nice to see others supporting the troops!

im shure you could get guys from here and from 4x4 fourms or clubs in your area to catch on

Nice job, I hope this pans out, my fiance's oldest son has aspergers, he will be ok in life though I think. He's 13 now, and a trip. He was diagnosed at 6, he obesses over things, he's been kicked out of schools, he is super intelligent though.

It's not easy for these kids that have both disorders.
