I plan on runnin some thin tires like 9- 9.5

Not to be a dick: It's a valid question. We can figure out if there's a better method for getting you your wider stance and helping you with the application (what you use your truck for)

Intentionally being a dick: Your idea is stupid. Run fatter tires and get a wider stance, not your ghey cockroach approach. We're premium members so we can throw our opinions around because we're cool like that. You have 2 posts and you're insulting someone who merely asked "why?"

Get a wider axle

This is actually a good idea. Adding width by changing the relationship between the outer edge of the rim and the point where it bolts to the axle still adds stress to the axle shaft and bearing, just like a spacer will.

The safer way to do it is to install an axle that is wider than the one currently on the vehicle.

And Weezl's question wasn't "WTF would you want to add width" is was "what are you doing that you want it" because, as was pointed out, maybe we know a better way to achieve your desired end result.

Dangit I was trying to be sarcastic

Sent from the road while ignoring traffic

cut your ranger in half, cut out a few inches and then weld it back together, wider stance you got.

Ass hat with 2 posts attacking weezl, wtf! Come on seriously now! I got yo back weez.

steering axis offset. if you screw with it too much the truck will change lanes anytime IT wants to, usually when least expected.
on a steering axle pushing the wheels out with respect to the centerline of the ball joints changes the offset. in the rear it's not an issue.

Que?

What he is trying to say is that if you have a rim with more offset than factory (or spacers) the further it sticks out from the factory wheel, the easier it is for bumps/dead animals/ other debris or imperfections in the road to push the wheel or cause the truck to steer unexpectedly. basically a wheel that sticks out further is like adding a cheater bar to your steering knuckle. further it sticks out, the worse it is.
