More on subject this time... Not a Wheel Horse since they aren't common on this side of the country but I picked up a David Bradley walking tractor a couple weeks ago with sickle bar mower and good knobby tires, with reverse. Still had the old Briggs Model 5 (I think, doesn't matter...). I over paid but gotta do something for the reed canary grass... I had a Predator 79cc engine handy so put that on the engine plate today, have to go to town to get belts since I moved the engine to try to shove it under the hood... The wobble box needed some love, the bearing plate had one out of three bolts in it, other two were broken off and the thrust bushing was like 1/4" from touching the wobble box...

got me a wheel horse today. no mower deck but has a rear tiller. 1979 C-101 model. 10 hp kohler, 3 speed with a high/low range (so 6 fwd gears, they call it a 8 speed , guess they count both reverse gears) was $600. There were 6-speed and 8-speed transmissions. Both have three forward speeds, one reverse speed, and a high and low range. The difference is the one has 8 pinion gears, one has 10-pinion gears. IIRC the output shafts are different diameters as well.

You should be able to put almost any WH deck on that, you just need the right mule drive for the front.

I've got a set of Carlisle Tru Powers on both my Horses. They look great and don't tear the grass up nearly as bad as the "turf savers" do.

Yeah, Kohler tune up parts are still out there. Stens is a good alternative if you can't find Kohler.

My 855 needs a valve job. I have the new head gasket, just waiting for late October, in my down time between the end of mowing season and the start of plowing season.

I have no idea what you are going to do with a snow blower in South Carolina. Here in PA I am probably just going to look at it a lot and only use it once every few years, because for most of the snow we get here the plow I have is a better choice.

the last several years Ive found a leaf blower to be quite effective. I built a front hitch for mine last week, now a neighbor wants me to build one for his deere. Had to have mine out front quite a bit due to the whole hood going forward. The ‘deere next door has no hood, so that wont be a issue.

It varies from year to year as to how much use the snow blowers get. Last year, a couple of times but there have been years where I was out there just about every day. Those things have earned their keep and doesn't bug me in the least if all I have to do is fuel them up at the beginning of the season and defuel them at the end of the season.

I just installed the OE front accessory mount brackets on my 71, which is the same hood and chassis as your C-series. The OE kit (PN8-5551) lines up with the original hood pin holes and replaced the original pin with a longer one.

Yes, but my neighbors who have unsteady feet and Toyotas with crappy all-season tires don't usually have three or more months to wait for snow to melt and so I like to try to keep the driveway clear for them.

At my last place, when it was just us and I didn't have a shared drive I didn't plow, blow, shovel, nothing. I just drove the Ranger through it a bunch of times until it was all packed down.

Ha, the only time I even started my blower last year was around Thanksgiving when I fired it up to make sure it still ran. I plowed once, and did no snow removal whatsoever for the rest of the season.

Year before, when I had no equipment, I was shoveling a few times a week.
