I took the rear brakes apart on my truck to replace them and as I was staring at the backing plate and the wheel cylinder I had to wonder... If I apply the brakes when the wheel cylinder is the only part still attached will it blow the seals out? And before anyone tells me it is unsafe to drive without rear brakes, I have no intention of doing so. I'm waiting to get the drums machined on Monday and I am just curious as to what would happen if I hit the brakes.

it may blow your cylinder seals and then you'd have the job of bleeding you brakes, AFTER you find the seals and pistons you blew all over your yard ;missingteeth; not too mention all the brake fluid that has just contaminated your work area, [ don't ask how i know ] with your pads installed may or may not make a difference.

Thanks, it's good to learn that one the easy way. I have to admit I was tempted to try it myself but I didn't want to deal with the possible mess:icon_thumby:
