I put new wheel bearings in my truck, tightened them to spec, but i still have a decent amoutn of play in the tire. I can shake the top of the tire in and out at least a 1/2 inch. How much play is ok? I know the ball joints are good on it

There should be zero play.
Gotta be the ball joints, or the wheel bearing isn't tightened correctly.
(or maybe your spindle is loose on the knuckle? :icon_surprised: )

Are you not able to tell where the play is? (maybe have someone else wiggle the wheel while you check around the ball joints, knuckle, etc.) If the knuckle moves with the wheel, most likely its ball joints. If the knuckle is tight, then more likely the bearing (or spindle).

the knuckle doesnt move, just the wheel and brake rotor, Ill check the tightness again
