What's your 4.0 fuel mileage?

So I'm thinkin about buyin a used ranger with a 4.0 and I'm wondering what they get in fuel mileage. Thanks in advance to all who respond!

which one, OHV or OHC? My OHV gets around 15 in town and up to 20 on highway with the manual trans. Free flow exhaust and free flow intake kit have been added. truck has 300000+ on it and trans has been only major issue.

4.0L OHV engine.

22-23mpg highway with 1997 automatic (5psd) 2wd extended cab. 3.55 gears and 26" tires. 196,000 miles on one engine and 198,000 on another in an identicle truck.

18-20mpg highway with 1997 automatic (5spd) 4x4 regular cab long bed. 3.73 gears and 33" tires. 94,000 miles on that engine.

17-19mpg highway with 1997 automatic (5spd) 4x4 extended cab. 4.56 gears and 33" tires. 193,000 miles on that engine.

I dont ever drive city or stop and go traffic so I cant contribute there. My area is hilly and without traffic lights for the most part.

I pull down about 17.5 with mine, but it never gets up over 55 anymore and I do spend a lot of time in stop and go.

I pulled down about 17 city and 20 highway when mine was stock. Extended cab auto 3.73 31' allterrains my best ever was 21 driving all highway to go get the lift kit.

4.0, 5 spd auto, 3.73 gears with 31s. 18-20 mostly hwy driving. This is running 70 mph most of the time.

My 2002 overhead cam 4.0, auto, 4x4 ranged from 17 to 21 on a trip. Everyday driving was 17-18. My 2011 with the same set up now does just a bit better. Ranges from 18 to 21 and daily is about 19.

1997 4.0, Supercab 4x4 with Automatic and 3:73 gears. factory lift and 31" tires. I get about 16-20mpg. usually 18-20 on the highway and 16-17 in town in stop and go.

'94 4.0L, stick, 4.10 gears, 33s, 6" lift.

Gets around 21 MPG hwy doin' 60, and 16-17 around town.

Doesn't seem to matter how I drive it. Well, as long as I keep it from lugging. Do that and the mileage goes \/. Pretty much have to try to lug the 4.0 though. Anything above 35mph and I'm in 5th.

Offtopic: Maybe there should be a 4.0 MPG sticky? It sure comes up often.
