I have an 87 ranger. I have clutch problems...to say the least. I know it has a new clutch and a new slave cylinder. Anyways, I went to bleed the slave cylinder and I get no fluid. Does anyone know anything about this or can anyone offer me some advice? Is the master cylinder bad? Is the throw out bearing bad? I cant get the SOB in gear, unless it is off. How do you know when the throw out bearing is bad? how do you know when the master is going? I disconnected the hydraulic line going from the Master cylinder to the clutch housing, or what I think is the slave cylinder housing, and I cant get any fluid. Please someone help. There is something I am missing. And I am confident that some of you pro's can lend an electronic hand. Please respond tekkies!!:icon_confused:

Get your buddy/wife/GF/kid/etc to hop in, pump it up a good 20 to 25 times, then have them let up on the pedal, you open the bleeder, then have them smash it down and hold. The clutch MC doesn't produce nearly as much pressure as the brake MC.

Also read this. It should help you a bit:

adsm08 me and "tonybaloney22" were the ones doing the clutch and it turns out that, we were using the wrong reservoir (the brake fluid one). After doing that we got what we thought was successful bleeding (the clutch pedal was tightening up). but, when we got a lot of pressure on the clutch the hose popped right off! It turns out the guy who had it before us but the hydraulic hose fitting off so it wasn't attached correctly. So we bought a new hose and we are soon going to try it tomorrow!

That could also cause the symptom that you described.

I just prefer to give advice from the assumption that the poster didn't do something like that. I find fewer people get insulted that way.

Good luck guys.
