to get to the blend door on the heater core it heats up jsut is stuck on cold and winter is here in michigan and i kinda need it..... please help

1997 4.0

If I recall correctly...
Open and empty the glove box. press in on the side tabs of the gbox to let it come fully foreward. Reach into the area behind where the gbox was and adjust the blend door.

I hope someone can confirm or refute with better information.

i actually just replaced my heater core on my 88, if i recall you are correct the blend door is just right inside

Fastest is a new truck or pay a shop. lol

I believe they are now right behind the stereo in the 93 and newer ones... go under the hood and on the firewall right on top should be a black plate that would give you access. although that may be the heater core....

The cables and control unit are behind the radio, but the blend door is in the passenger foot well easily accessible through the glove box as was previously stated. The plate on the firewall you speak or is access to the wiper motor and arms and won't even get you p to the inside of the firewall.

Whats this about a blend door? My 96 2.3 doesnt spit out heat like it used to. Assumed the heater core is shot/clogged, but now that I'm hearing about some sort of door.........

You can either have really small fingers and really small wrenches, or you can pull the dash lol. Pulling the dash is probably faster haha.

I pulled the dash in my dad's 2007 Grand Marquis to replace the blend door, and pulled the Ranger's dash during the trans swap, you can do this job in 3-4 hours plus there arent that many bolts involved.

Ranger dash isn't that hard to remove. You can access the actuator via the glove box opening. The actuator is the white box that is visible in Original's last pic there, and if you take it off you may be able to jam the door to the side. They are spring loaded and default back to the cold setting when not being held. Your issue may be as simple as a bad actuator. Pop the sucker out and see if she works. Bad actuators are much more common than stuck doors.

You problem is probably a shot/clogged heater core. Blend doors usually cause no heat or only heat. Rarely poor heat.

ty ima get involved with it tommmorw idc if the a/c works right now i just wanna get the heat running threw it

the adjustment nob on the dash doesn't click when using it, it is just a solid movement and only blows cold

The post on the blend door can be felt at the top of the module. One way to test is to put your fingers at the top of the module while using your other hand to turn the temp knob. If you feel any movement, then the module is probably good and you can look at a clogged heater core or something else.

If the module feels hot, the IC chip inside has failed. I opened a bad module and touched it by accident, it was extremely burning hot...effin ouch! lol

best thread ive found on the blend door. no heat here, is it possible to set the door to heat mode without taking the whole dash out? would like to save that job for spring.

It is possible, but it would be easier to just fix the bad motor. You have to take the blend door motor out and put it back in to jam it to heat. Might as well throw a good one in while you are there.
