What's the biggest towed?

2 custom built lawnmower racers... blue one (ford) custom built is 326lbs. the orange one is 74' lawnflite its just over 300lbs..

Those don't weigh anything. This is my 25hp, 50" '00 Poulan Pro that weighs 720# stock--but has 60# of fluid in each rear tire and 40# wheel weights-- ~920#.

Biggest I've towed with my 2.5, 4 cyl auto was a 5300 lb covered metal box trailer. The back of the truck had another 500 lbs of equiptment. Twas a shitty day....Did I mention it was windy and my balljoints are shot? :(. Took skill staying in my lane

grandparents 25' 5th wheel, it wasnt to bad actually:

being a dual axle trailer the weight is all in the middle of the axles which makes it east to tow. Hills would be terrible and stopping wouldnt be too fun
(to regularly tow a camper not even an f150 is the best tool, buy a Superduty w/ heavy duty brakes and heavy duty tranny)

No, all the weight is not in the middle of the axles. If it were, it wouldn't make it a great towing trailer. The two things that make it a great towing trailer are that the hitch is right over the truck axle. There is no lever-arm between the hitch and the axle, which gives the trailer a handle to throw the truck around with. The second thing is, the truck's front end stays in alignment no matter what. If you load a TIB Ford with a trailer tongue, it lifts the front of the truck and even a small amount throws the alignment out enough to make the front end 'darty'. With a heavy tag-along trailer you have sway controls and equalizer hitches available to help counteract the effect of the hitch to axle lever arm. You don't need that stuff with a gooseneck or fifth wheel.

You do have the brakes though, as was stated. Trailer brakes though. I can't overstate the importance of trailer brakes. The trailer needs to do it's own stopping. It's a traction thing. The axle needs to be able to provide braking for the weight resting on it. The truck's rear axle is only holding 10-15% of the trailer weight. Even with 15" schoolbus brakes it doesn't have the traction to stop the load if the trailer doesn't have brakes.

who says cars are useless

my dad used to use an 89 escort gt hatchback to travel his troybuilt roto tiller haha

i don't know if i have a picture or not, but i towed my 69 corvair on a friend's duel axle trailer with my 93 4L 5spd ranger, it didn't even know the trailer/car were there. probably about 3000lbs or so, not too much.
don't have the corvair or the ranger anymore... i miss having a truck

steel hay wagon, about 2000lbs. plus 10 round bales, about 800lbs a piece, pulled it many times about 10km, doesnt seem to have a problem with it

before i got my new truck, i used to tow my two jetskis on the trailer quite frequently with my 1997 2.3 auto. one time, i towed them about 40 miles round trip and it was so hard to keep the skis from getting hit because i was on a multilane highway the whole time and the frickin' trailer is like two feet wider than the truck.

a 3,000 pound '93 taurus out of a steep. snow-filled ditch. just bought a new tow strap 2 hours before i put the wifes car off the road. roadside snowdrifts plus slushy roads equal being out of control before you know it! i was impressed that the ranger could pull it out, the ditch was so steep that you couldnt hardly walk up it without falling. best thing is that i got it out of there before any johnny law showed up to ticket me for failure to control. worst thing was that i was a mile from home, and had to walk home to get the truck. (wife cant drive a std.)

I just towed my 20' ventura travel trailer out of storage with my 2000 3.0 4x4. Surprised it even pulled out from where it was at. Stop signs sucked. Had to double clutch it in first to get it moving. Downshifted all the way down to first on some little hills. The trailer was loaded to the ceiling with other stuff so it was VERY heavy. I would estimate 7500lbs. I usually pull it with my 99 silverado but I wanted to see what the ranger could do. It was all gravel roads that are extremely low traffic, and never went over 30MPH. Compressed the springs so much on the ranger that my muffler was rubbing the driveshaft lol.

A full bed full of soaken wet clay from under our driveway. Each shovel full felt like 100 pounds of dead weight. No idea on the weight but id guess at least 2000 pounds of dead weight on my 7.5 axle.

I pulled my SIL's Grand Cherokee about 50 miles home on a towstrap at highway speeds in my 2003 2.3/5spd stepbox. No problems. (mileage dropped to 19.6)

Pulled 3000# haybales to the cattle with my '88 2.9/5spd BII.

Pulled an empty 8x12 cargo trailer 250 miles back from StLous in a thiunderstorm. 2003 2.3/5spd stepbox. (mileage dropped to 25.4)

I NEVER tow in overdrive.
