What's the biggest towed?

i hooked up a 32' enclosed trailer to my 01 ranger 4x4 4.0l that had a double wides furniture in it. i was fine in low range going forward but when i started backing up with it my toolbox started lifting up.. so i stoped and got out and what happend was a bent my frame and the only thing that stopped it from bending ferther was the jack on the trailer was in the ground. i know that was stupid but i just added about 3 more inches in the back on top of the body lift and you will never know now..

I just towed my 20' ventura travel trailer out of storage with my 2000 3.0 4x4. Surprised it even pulled out from where it was at. Stop signs sucked. Had to double clutch it in first to get it moving. Downshifted all the way down to first on some little hills. The trailer was loaded to the ceiling with other stuff so it was VERY heavy. I would estimate 7500lbs. I usually pull it with my 99 silverado but I wanted to see what the ranger could do. It was all gravel roads that are extremely low traffic, and never went over 30MPH. Compressed the springs so much on the ranger that my muffler was rubbing the driveshaft lol.

Uh, what?

Around '92 when my 76 F250 4wd was on the road during the winter time a long nosed Kenworth had pulled off the side of the freeway to tighten down a loose strap & in so doing that he got stuck in the snow & angled shoulder of the freeway. The semi had a 40ft flat bed with steel tubing on it. My truck has a 460 with a 520 strocker kit which is putting 610 hp & 585 ft lbs of torque to the rear Dana 60 & hp Danna 44 with 4.56 gears & 35" BFG M/T. My truck has a NV 4500 5 spd ,so with all four tires locked w/ ARB Lockers & 4wd low & granny I was able to pull the semi back onto the more flat surface of the shoulder & into an area where the snow wasnt as deep.

Besides that being my largest tow ,my biggest load carried was with 2ft side boards & also a 2ft frt & back boards. I had 6.53 tons of 5/8 crushed gravel in the bed of it. YES a little over 13,000 lbs. The rear leaf springs are for a F450 with overload springs

My truck has been sitting now since Feb of '95 due to several replacement's of dana 60 rears not holden up to the power & tire size & the fact that I also have a broken front steering u-joint.

I also had to more kids since the truck has been sitting & also got a divorce in 2001

I plan to get me a Sterling rearend & up grade to a Dana 60 frontend some time-some year down the road.

I actaully built this truck from what was only a 73 F250 4wd frame, complete front suspension, front & rear drive lines, rear leafsprings, tranny & transfer case.

NO engine ,cab, bed, rearend, wheels or tires. In 3 months I gathered all needed parts to get the truck put together & on the road. That was in 91 when I only had 1 child & had a good paying job. 92,96 & 97 yielded 3 more kids & vehicle $$$ started to go else where

Truck sounds awesome as hell, but there's video out of an STI yanking a semi forward.

Back in the day my Dad had to pull loaded semi's out of our driveway with his 97 F150 4wd, due to ice. 4 lo was no problem. All of his trucks stay bone stock, down to the crappy factory tires.

friend of mines 96 f250 7.3 pulled a 48 foot gooseneck full of aluminum and 2 dirtbikes and a quad and a 49 dodge and 2 big welders and a generator.
5 hours before the tranny overheated.
let it sit and got back to the road, no biggy
probably close to 25k #'s
we got 5.5 mpg the whole time haha,as for my 2.9 ranger, 1/2 yard of soil had it sittin on the overloads, (it was kinda wet)
as for weight, i pulled my friends 95 sonoma 4wd (4000 pounds) across town but i wouldn't take a freeway with a 2.9 and 4000 pounds.
3000 i would do.

We've been pulling anny wagons with our rangers.

Think the 8,500lb liquid nitrogen put a bit of a strain on the ol Fx4 of my bosses yest though. But it didn't hurt anything....... just wasn't happy at the time that liquid gets to sloshing pretty good... his 2000 has 4.10's and stock tires with an auto.

I pull the anny wagons better but my 04 has 33 4.88's and a manual trans.

i towed a '89 dodge caravan from corvallis or, to woodburn or(about 60mi) on a double axle flat bed with the stock bumper hitch with my '86 b2. and the damn thing kept up with the slow lane all the way. god i love my 2.9

Just pulled 6400 pounds of retaining wall bricks this weekend on a 1600 pound trailer. So that was a load of 8,000 pounds. Will get pictures up soon of it.

In 08 my a group of volunteers reroofed my pastors house, yet no one volunteered to haul away the two trailers of shingles. Me being the well educated 18 year old on the job I jumped at the chance. My lil 2.9, cracked exhaust manifold and all, pulled 4,600 pounds of shingles without complaining. While going up a steep grade on the way to the landfill I floored it and let her roar and heard the cummins behind me with the other load of just of 3000# doing the same I was stoked to look in my mirror and see him falling behind:headbang: I found out a week later that he toasted his tranny, but really, who needs to know that detail.

yep........ seen to many stupid people towing too much load with not enough brakes......... that being said ................ I towed my Neon SRT-4 behind my explorer bringing it home from the dealership (had to tow my taurus to the dealership, Teffie couldn't drive a 5spd, or tow the trailer behind the explorer).........

also towed a jeep J-10 on a trailer behind my Explorer 35 miles, avoided the freeway at all costs.......... but I am no ordinary stupid people ...... I tow heavy loads for a living and know how to stay well with in my limits

lol, most peoples problem is they don't understand electronic brakes and how they work, They are night and day difference, With a good set up of electronic brakes on a trailer or even a Camper you would def have enough of brakes. But I am sure the camper wouldn't be a super smart idea, it would sway like crazy lol. electronic brakes is what we need though in our rangers if we are pulling heavy.

Here's the pictures. Also hauled a skid loader, Case IH 1840. The rocks we removed weighed a lot more than the load pictured, which was 8,000 pounds.

I have a Reese WD hitch, cheap brake controller I want to replace, and a lot of luck.

the heaviest i ever crossed the scales at was 23,500 lbs. considering my scrap rig weighs in at 8500 thats 15,000 pounds of scrap!!! prices were high, scrap was plentiful, oh the good ole days:icon_twisted:

truck used was a 95 dodge half ton shortbox, i have nothing bad to say about dodge trucks except for a few little minor things, i have hauled too many heavy loads of scrap with dodge trucks to say anything bad about them...
i can believe that. just this week i saw my friends dad in his 07 gmc 1 ton dually towing a zoomboom on a 36' gooseneck. (trailer weighs 5000 pounds, zoomboom is just over 22,000 pounds, plus the truck, which im guessin is around 8 or 9 thousand #'s.)
thats 35-36,000#'s.
and trucj is stock, just duramax and 6 speed, with 290,000 hard kms
i almost cryed when i saw that i was like sure, trash the thing.

This is a 14ft aluminum boat I towed (from the bumper) the other day from WV to NE Ohio with dry rotted tires on the trailer, one working tail light on the trailer, through construction, with at least 400lbs in the bed lol. In all honestly it actually handled really well being that my truck is a 2.5l 2wd :icon_thumby:

my ranger had small red stone filled to the brim. i said stop dumpin and he dumped the rest in, the one bump stop that was still on it was laying on the ground, and the tires were in the fenders we couldnt go over 25 before it went all over the road, thats when i put air shocks on it.. then we bought a trailer. the hevest thing towed was a 20 foot enclosed trailer, i got the power house 4.0 it towed great (for a big 6 cyl) but the woa part was scary. so was the starting on a hill with a car right behind us brake and gas... lots of it
