What's the big deal?

Umm, if your filter is that restrictive, what the F*** did you do to the bypass?

ALL non-F'ed-up oiling systems have bypasses.

It amazes me that people can tell how strong or restrictive something is by looking at it. Ranks right up there with the butt dyno. You're fooling yourself.

And your filter wouldn't be so restrictive if you changed it once in a while and used the correct oil.

For a street-driven vehicle, it really doesn't matter very much at all.

What do you mean what did I do to the bypass? I didn't do jack to it! And since when was 3k mile oil changes and 5w30 for a DOHC engine not correct? How is watching my oil gauge actually working right after the big restrictive filter is replaced with one that doesn't restrict fooling myself?

I would have to agree that fram filters are shit. I'm only 24 years old and I've already seen two cases of bad fram filters. One was a Pontiac that I sold to my brother. He changed the oil in it and put a fram on and shortly after the oil light started coming on at random times. He ignored it because the oil was full, sure enough the camshaft siezed in the head and snapped the timing belt. We took a shot in the dark and got the cam free with an impact on the end and a pipe wrench between the lobes. Put on a new timing belt and non fram oil filter and he drove it for at least another year. Second case was a Dodge I worked on at work. The oil light kept coming on at idle, and my boss had me pull the pan and check the pickup. It was perfectly clean because the owner kept his oil changed regularly. My boss wanted me to put an oil pump in, which is a MAJOR pain on a 2.7. I said let's try changing the fram filter out for a Napa, just because thats what we normally use. Did that and no more oil light on, and that was over a year ago and still no problems. I don't care what anyone says I will NOT put a fram on anything I drive even though my stuff is old and half worn out.

The Fram filter is doing just what it is supposed to do, getting rid of the stuff in your old half worn out engine that the other filters have missed. Even with a couple of oil changes. Ever run an oil plug with the built-in magnet in it? Maybe you've had bad luck but I stick by the Fram or Motor Craft.

I've always used fram tough guard air and oil filters, they work just fine.

But.....

Why don't we all stick to the original topic, shall we?

One reason crate engines are more expensive is because most carry a warranty. Just a thought...
