I heard a noise in my brakes, so I took them apart. The side I took off had a broken spring, and when I took off the other side as a reference to put the broken side put back together, it had a greenish brown fluid everywhere. Quick look at the axle, and yep. Leaking axle seal. Looked like water mixed with brake dust, but one time too many off road in the dunes and sand must have destroyed the seal. The cause was the little rubber plug for adjusting the brakes fell out. Any off roader with rear drums - - -might be a good time to check for those plugs
