What's missing

Hi,
I need help telling me what I am missing for my 4X4 to work.
Over the last year, I took a 1988 2WD standard cab ranger and a roll over 1991 4wd standard cab ranger and made one truck.

The roll over was badly rusted so what was used was the 4.0, the 5 speed manual transmission, the front and back axles (dana 35 front, 8.8 rear), the 91 computer and wiring harness plus the 91 steering column and dash.
Basically I have the front frame cross member and drive train out of the 91 roll over into the 88 cab and frame.
On the dash is the push button for the 4X4 engagement. The transfer case has the motor and plug on it.
When I stripped the 91 roll over, the seats were rusted to the floor and went with the cab as scrap metal.
I've been reading that under the passenger side seat was the 4x4 module.
Is this true and if so, what do I need exactly?
Does this module plug into wiring under the dash and does it have the plug that plugs into the t-case plug?

Any direction would be great and if you can provide pictures, even better.

thanks,
D9N

thanks, I been going though them for the last week and could find anything.

OK, so that confirms that I need a module.
So back to my questions;
1) Is the module the same for any year Ranger, 198? to 1993? I have a manual transmission. What module do I need? Is there a part number to aid in my search for one and to make sure I have the correct module?

2) What plugs into the module and from where? I'm guessing that the plug is in the cab since it would come from the dash push buttons. According to what I just read, I have an idea of what plug is needed and what it looks like. Is there a long lead wire coming from under the dash center or on one side of the dash or the other?

3) What runs between the module and the transfer case plug. Is it only a wire harness with a plug that goes into the module and the other end has a plug that goes into the t-case plug? Where does or should it run out of the cab?
Does anyone sell them? What is it?

Sorry but I don't mean to sound condescending, the info given didn't answer my questions.

Thanks, D9N

I have a 93 4x4 Ranger with the electric TC. I'll check tomorrow daylight and see if I can find wiring and take pics. If you don't here from me by tomorrow afternoon send a private message to remind me. My memory sucks.

All the wires from the shift motor on the transfer case run to the Shift Module

You want a Shift Module from a 1990 to 1994 Ranger or Explorer

You also need the wiring harness for best results, but...............

Go to this thread and download the 1993 4WD wiring diagram: https://therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=170637

You can make your own harness, but still need the connectors that fit shift module

There are just 3 parts to the system, shift module, shift motor and dash buttons, thats where all the wires run between
Just add 12volts and Grounds

thanks for the information.
Looking forward to your pictures Mr. Floored.

I also have a 93. Mine is a standard can and my module is mounted on the wall behind the driver seat. Here are some photos that might help.

Great pictures. Thank you very much. Now to see if I can find the lead in plugs.

I had some down time while my wife took a nap this afternoon. So why not take a few pix?

I disconnected all of that when I converted mine to 5.0 with full size trans and TC. I think the module and the wiring is intact. Don't know if I can separate the harness without issues, but I'll look when it stops raining. I may have what you need from a 1992.

Hi Elutheros,
if you can spare it, send me a pm letting me know what you want to it.
thanks again Guys!
