2000 Ranger extended cab stepside 4x4. Large dent on driver's side fender, some rust, 244k miles, runs and drives but needs head gasket. Tires about 50%.

What's it worth?

For clarification, I'm thinking of buying this truck for a project, and wondering what would be a reasonable offer.

$500-$700 around me depending on the condition of the suspension, transmission, 4x4, engine, and brakes beyond just needing the headgaskets replaced.

Head gasket is serious work so 500? Years back my mom payed 700 for A 92 that needed a head gasket.

Frame? And ya 500 sounds fair. My father has gotten more for less

Frame is solid. The guy is asking $1000 for the truck, so I'm thinking it is a bit high.

There are running and driving vehicles for $1,000.00. The majority of the market is in no way going to bite on that old and high of mileage vehicle for that price needing a major repair.

If you just want the truck for a project offer a bit more than scrap price and tell the seller your offer stands as long as hes selling. A few weeks with no calls and pondering on the fact he obviously does not want to fix this truck and scrap being his only option besides your offer to put the only bit of money he can get for this truck in his pocket. He will take your offer.

Just make sure what you can get for scrap with the cat/cats separate. Around me truck will bring $350.00 complete at a scrap yard and the cat/cats $40.00 each if cashed in separate. I would offer $400.00 and if the trucks crap cut the cats out and take some other stuff off that I can sell for $100.00 or so just to come out ahead on the purchase. If not fix it and have a truck for $400.00
