ok i've got a 1991 4.0 4x4 with an auto tranny with auto locking 4x4 hubs. will the 5.0 bolt to an A4LD? and if it will how long will it last before it shits itself again? i heard it will tear it up right away. but i will have the 5.0 the complete harness and the computer. what else do i need? any help would be great.
thanks,
tim

I don't think an A4LD will hold to a 5.0 for very long, if at all. For the 5.0 swap, C4's and C6's are pretty popular choices. I personally am going with a full manual C6.

Also, if you plan on building up the 5.0, you will have to change fuel pumps. The one thats in your Ranger right now *should* be able to flow enough to power a mild 302/5.0 but nothing more. The moment you start building the motor, switch pumps.

A4LD will not bolt to a 5.0. Even if you could mate the 2 the life of the A4LD could be measured in minutes. Gotta remember the "LD" in A4LD stands for light duty. get a 93 Mustang Cobra fuel pump and call it a day. Start with good solid "foundation" parts (usually the ones that you would really have to dig for to repair them) and your swap will be a success.

thanks guys, i was thinking about going with the c6 anyways. but is that all i really gotta do to do the swap? it takes different motor mounts right? and thats it? lol if its that easy it wont be to bad at all.
thanks,
tim

If you can find a radiator and headers that work your all set. There are plenty of examples here in these threads.

A c-6 tranny is heavy, but will work, i am using one. You can use the mustang convertible mounts switched side to side.

You can take measurements for your radiator and find the biggest one to fit in there.
