what colors are the wires that run to the ingition of my 1988 ford ranger? and if you are thinking, no i am not trying to steal one. my friend lost his keys so we was trying to figure it out

well don't worry im not stealin any vehicles. and that link didn't help tho

Try taking the columb apart.. the connection direcly under the ignition switch.. umplug it. take a volt tester. find the hot at all times wire. one of the corner ones i believe. take a peice of wire 3'' long strip both ends of the wire stick one end in the hot at all times pin in the connector.. then try sticking the onther end into the different pins on the connectors.. winsheild wipers will turn on ect. keep doing that until you fint the pin that gives you dash lights aand you will be able to hear the fuel pump run. if the dash lights are on you have the right one. then pop the hood anbd go jump the starter solenoid with a wrench or something metal. when you want to turn the engine off pull one side of the wire out of the connector. when you find the key.. plug the connecton back in and you can useur key again. I HOPE IM DOING THE RIGHT THING AND HELPING YOU WITH YOUR PROBLEM. if TRS staff delete this for resons i understand. i hope it helps you. People who steal gett here fingers cut off!

P.S. no i dont know this frim experience if your wondering i bought a BroncoII for my branger project and it had no keys. and i wanted to wheel it before i ripped it apart!:secret:

if ur really concerned just drill out the pin on the lock cylinder and pull it out that way, ive done it b4, easiest way, and ull still have a key, its just a screwdriver instead of a key :P, then goto ur local autoparts sotre and apy 14 for a new lock cylinder and pop it in and ur good togo

the only problem is the whole place where the key device goes is kinda in a million pieces

if u look at the side of the column u should be able to see a lever or a gear, i forget which it is, u can start the truck with a screwdrive from there, if i were u and its really that mangled just install a pushbutton ignition with a killswitch that requires a key
