Transmission
Manual
Hi, like the title says, I am putting an 86 Merkur 2.3 turbo engine into my 84 2.3 carbed c3 auto ranger. I want to swap in the m5od manual trans as well because my c3 is borderline worn out and makes my truck a complete dog.
What year(s) transmission would fit the best? Also, what year pedals and master cylinder should I use? I have an 89 2.9 4x4 parts truck with the m5od will the pedals an master fit? One last question, will the flywheel that came in the Merkur work with a regular 2.3 ranger clutch?

Thanks in advance,
Josh

What auto doesn't?

What year(s) transmission would fit the best?
1988-99

Also, what year pedals

The Pedals from your '89 will work, the pedal bracket will not.

and master cylinder should I use?
The one from the '89 will work, but get a new one, SAVE the plastic clutch line, they cost $75

I have an 89 2.9 4x4 parts truck with the m5od will the pedals an master fit? Yes, but again, the pedal BRACKET is different

One last question, will the flywheel that came in the Merkur work with a regular 2.3 ranger clutch? Yes, a 2.3 flywheel is a 2.3 flywheel

But in looking for a clutch I personally recommend using a Centerforce II
(NOT their "Dual-Friction") and buy the one for a 1989 2.9 engine.
Trust me it'll fir and work perfectly..

Thanks in advance,
Josh

Thanks for the info, so what year range for the pedals and bracket should I look for? Would I be correct to assume that any of the first generation (up to 88) should work?

Josh

Pedals? to make things simple look for any Ranger or Bronco2 83-88

so basically yeah, first gen.

If you wanna be "sneaky" and you have no intention of using
cruise control from an '83-87 you could probably get JUST the
pedals out of a '91-94.

the late Gen2 pedals have a slightly larger pedal (and rubber cover)
and the later pedal covers are more easily aquired.

They SHOULD fit and function as I've put '88 pedals (same as '83-87 pedals except lasking the "arm" that the plastic pushrod for the early type clutch safety switch attaches to) into a 1993 while converting it.

I actually like the smaller pedals, mostly because of my size14 feet.
