What would you offer for this truck?

I've been looking for a truck for months now, and when this one was first posted, I was hopeful. I emailed the seller but unfortunately it turned out that the truck was the absolute base model. It has no options at all. I thanked him for the response but said I was looking for a truck with various power options. He recently relisted it at the same price, and I'm considering it again. I'm really ready to drive something new, and power steering is really the only power thing I'd consider an absolute deal breaker, which I believe was standard on all rangers at this time. However, I'm not sure the price is right considering the year, mileage, and lack of options. So I'm hoping that you guys can give me some advice on what a fair offer would be. And yes, if I end up purchasing the truck, the camper shell will be coming off.

Thanks for the help. :)

1K and call it a day.

i'd go as high as 1500, I bought my truck for 2g and it was a i4, 2wd, standard cab with no options, the body was rough, but the frame had 70g and the engine was rebuilt and installed at 50g

how much are you looking to spend. I would try and find something with less miles. are you set on a 4x4. MY standard suggestion for buying a car. Find a dealer go to the auction with them pay them a fee. win win. you should look at the for sale section of these forums. whenever i see a good deal on craigslist I post it.

I was willing to spend a lot more, but not as much as it seems my ideal truck would cost. The problem is that there isn't a lot of selection here since I live in a somewhat small area where 4x4s are very popular, and thus valuable, and the next nearest population centers are 6+ hours away. I've been keeping a close eye on the for sale posts here, and while the prices are good, most of the trucks are on the other side of the country.

My idea with this truck is just a cheap short term solution until I can get some more money and the prices come down a bit on the trucks I want.

ya i'd say offer about 1500....and try blue booking it and see what the fair price value is......base your price off this, its a bad economy and craigs list people are looking for deals if he doesn't budge he prob won't sell it can't hurt to try. good luck.

Price seems decent for up here at least...

That price seems about what people want for them around here too. However, my daily driver Explorer was listed on CL for 1500 and I offered him 900 for it. He said no so I said sorry. Couple days later he called back sayin to come get it. I've had it for over 2 months now with no real problems (front brake pads, different tires) and it runs like a champ. Start low, with what you're comfortable with, but don't go over the max amount you want to spend. There'll be more trucks out there. Patience is virtue.

I am just posting this so you have an idea of what might be out there. I know you are on the other side of the country. I live in Boston , MA nothing around here is cheap. I saw this on CL this morning. sounds like the basis of a nice solid truck. rockauto has a beck/arnley starter for $93 moog ball joints for $65 and $20 for brake stuff. those repairs are all easily doable..just a thought. http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/cto/1605741943.html.
