Alright guys i've got a ranger sitting in a storage unit with a blown tranny just eating up money in rent...Its not worth anything to sell as the trans costs about as much as the trucks worth...what would ya'll do?

96 4x4 2.3l 5spd. Reg cab long bed...suggestions?

:dunno:

Got to the junkyard and see if you can find a tranny. Otherwise i would suggest trying to part it out or sell it as is. Honestly, if i could find a truck in good shape with just a blown trans, hell yea i would buy it.

if you sold it what would ya sell it for?

Are you able to replace the tranny yourself? if so then go the junkyard route. If not then it would be too expensive to justify keeping it so i would say, sell it to one of the other CO guys on here so that the ranger may live on. would hate to see a rare 4cyl 4x4 ranger get scrapped cause of the tranny.

problem is a tranny for it is over a grand used cause its a 4x4 with a 2.3l, and the truck running is probably only worth a couple grand...sooo.... I would really like to keep it since its my first truck, just not sure if i should just suck it up and get a new tranny, or if i should do engine swap etc. and make it a trail rig....choices choices

Id go junkyard route.... what's blow on the tranny? the only diff with 2wd and 4wd M5OD-R1 is the rear housing which you can swap.

Trannys normally only go $200-$300

You can swap the rear housings on them?...that makes me feel a little better, because for my model i can't find anything for under a grand, but maybe would have better luck with a 2wd.

I'm not exactly sure what wrong with the trans either, just wont go into any gear, even when truck is off/clutch pushed in, so it may not be as bad as i'm thinkin.

P.S.

Hey Colorado guys, know any good junk yards up north?? i'm in fort collins.

Thanks for all the advice so far

Sounds like it could be an hydraulic issue with the clutch to me. Someone else chime in if you agree.

yup sounds like it might be a bad slave cylinder.. ive had the same problem on my 4 liter.. i got lucky enough it went in my drive way..

yea slave cylinder ... i would almost bet on it

Ha mine went on the highway, its not fun coasting from 75 to 0 and trying to pull to the side...ah good times.

alright i'll check the slave cylinder first and hope for the best, thanks guys for all the help. Ya'll are awesome:headbang:

Oh yeah, how tough is it to fix said slave cylinder...what all am i gettin myself in to?:fie:

I have a 95' 2.3L 4x4.

It deff. sounds like a slave cylinder. Check reservoir under hood and make sure full and not dirty

then look at the bell housing for any clutch fluid leaks and there should be a rubber peice you can pop out and you can see right in at the slave cylinder. Look for fluid on slave cylinder. A slave cylinder for my truck was 70 bucks at local part store.

And for the tranny. Whoever told you it was 5 grand is blowing smoke up your ass. Junk yard one is about 250. I think my buddy said new one was 2 grand and transfer case was 2500. Not 100% on prices but know it weren't 5grand.
