My cat has a crack on the outside shell which is causing a decent sized exhaust leak. If I remove this will The truck run different? will the CEL be on? They want $200 to put a new cat on, and i don't have that to spend right now.

One this is for sure... you would be breaking the law

And also, that won't make the light go off on the dash board or make your truck run better. It probably wouldn't make the truck run much different, but I have found that my rangers have always run a little better with the back pressure that mufflers and cats provide, but that's just my opinion.

It will give you like 100 HP bro! Lol nah just make it louder, more annoying, and kills the earth just a Lil faster

Nothing will happen in the way that your truck runs, it will however be much louder.

You can buy universal cats for around $60 from summitracing.com

Get one from a junkyard or something and have them weld it on I'm sure you can do it for less than 100...I mean they'll be doing half the work to just remove it anyways. Get a quote from another shop if you bring your own cat. I've heard if guys patching then up too temporarily with mixed success

federal offense and you get major fine or you go to jail... lol, no biggie right?

find a universal one at Summitracing or something is the cheapest/best option.

shhhhh, i don't have one either
but telling someone to be illegal is not 'right... :icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

If there is enough metal left around the crack, just have it welded up at least for temporary.

If the leak ain't that bad wait till you have the money. My ranger runs better with a cat and I would recommend one for performance. Its up to you if you have a test pipe installed, just think of all them tree huggers waiting on the side of the road in case the environment gets damaged by you

Sent from road while ignoring traffic

Removal of the converter on your truck will trip the CEL since yours is OBDII and has the catalyst monitor.

Now, you did not hear this from me, BUT..... little JB weld, a few big Popsicle sticks, and you won't really notice the leak.

Get a universal cat, bring your old cat to the scrap yard(I got $45 for mine). You'll only be spending a small amount.

Buuuuut......if it were me.......I wouldn't even replace it. Because that's how I roll... :D

Oh, come on... It's only a fine of up to $5000, per missing cat.
A buddy of mine got tickets for all 4 missing cats on his fox body. He plea bargained down from $20,000 to around $5000.
