General Grabber ATx

I wanted better road manors (mainly noise) and snow performance than the Firestone Destination MT's that I had on the truck. I was stuck between the Grabbers and BFG AT's as I liked they both had aggressive and rather timeless tread designs with solid white letters.

So I was getting an AT on the more aggressive side that looked somewhat period correct for my 1985 Ranger that were also three peak rated for snow.

31x10.5-15 6ply, 3" bodylift and I did have to reshape the rear of the front fenders slightly after the D35 swap.

I got grabber ATX's on the back end of my ranger.

BFG A/T's on everything else

Woulda went BFG on the ranger too if the KO2's came in a 14 in rim.

The grabbers though seem to bite good and perform about the same as the BF's. I did have a quality issue where the sidewall devloped a big bulge after a few months. Crapazon took it back and sent me another for free.

Ive never had a quality issue with any BF tire ever.

(5) MICKEY THOMPSON BAJA BELTED 33/13.5R15

A wide set of 5 tires mounted on 15×10 Alcoa Al. wheels was the result of a parts trade. These tires were incorporated to further increase the ride stability and safety of the 87 BII for overall family use after the rebuild of it's 2.9l, addition of Explorer axles and a 4" suspension lift.

My Mickey Thompson 32" x 11.5 x 15 Deegan tires are on their way out. Nothing else available. These were copied by china factories and were destroyed before all of them arrived at "the dock", plus today Mickey Thompson tires have changed like they all do, Cooper is who makes them now. I'll go back to my General Grabber X as they work better than the rest in the turns. I'll miss the tall size 32 inch however. Not a fan of BFG "Long Trail" AT tires as every tire was a reject ending up with internal belt delamination issues. Never collected on that calamity and not going back ever again. I believe it was the "long trail model, but still.....

kumho road venture 31x10.5x15 they were the cheapest on a local website. they are nice for the price

Pro-comps?

I really liked the Pro Comp Xtreme M/T2, 35x12.50x15. Liked the first set so much I bought anther set. They had good wet, mud traction. dug a little too much in snow, were not too noisy for a MT, and wore pretty well

@Jim Oaks

Please add ProComp to the list with one vote.

cheapest ones that I could find at Walmart lol:
Dextero All Terrain DAT1 P235/75R15

They look good enough and were $80 each.

Kumho Cragen in the stock size on stock wheels. These are a 70,000–mile tire and are intended for light trucks. They've been on the '11 Ranger for a year and I probably have nearly 20,000 miles on them. Very happy with them. No more Cooper Cobras for me!

My Ranger is only rear-drive, but if you aren't doing anything intense offroad, these tires would probably do fine for most of you with 4WD.

Oh boy. This is a tricky question for a Marketplace addict haha.

The last new set of tires I bought was Kenda Klever MTs. They were great. Actually sold to a friend who is still running them on his Frontier. They were 255/75r17s. Yes I went with these because @Blmpkn had them on his 19 and I knew they would clear. Good tires as long as you rotate them. I put 20k on them.

That's where my marketplace addiction starts haha. I found some Mickey Thompson Deagan 38s in a 33x12.50x17 Jeep takeoffs. Loved the look. Tires were great performance wise. Mud, snow, rain, ect. Never had any issues. They were loud and heavy but I didn't care cause they looked tough haha. Seemed to wear pretty good. Again didn't run them out. Sold them off on Marketplace for 100 bucks after I swapped to ATs

Next I had mentioned I was gonna try some ATs and a friend gave me some Toyo Open County AT2 Extremes. 305/70r17s. So I started cutting and jamming them on haha. I was really impressed with the tire. Was so quiet compared to the MTs. I can't say much for the life. I ended up cutting a side wall offroad and had to replace.

Looking again I found some Nitto Grappler G2s. Nice and quiet. Has been a good tire. I've put about 20k on them. I will say they ate the worst performance offroad of any I've had on the Ranger. Maybe the best on road though.

Now I have a set of Yokahama MTs sitting in the garage. Once I wear these Nittos out I will get them put on. I was wanting to get them before the Vagabond trip but time didn't work out. The Nottos are about shot. After almost getting stuck a few times I've decided the trade off for noise over offroad performance is worth the price. Looking forward to getting these installed.

I have kumho geolander at52 on my ranger. Most of my wants from the tire is getting me out of questionable boat ramps, mud and sand. Has done great with that and is nice in the road.

last tires i bought were pirelli for the outgoing powerboost.

yokohama geolander at for the bronco. needed somethingg good in the snow and road friendly.

and goodyear military OZ used for the ranger.

those suck at everything except for prematurely wearing out to extend the misery. they really suck at being round or in balance. but CHEAP.

after winter might try the military BFG...or the new style Goodyear.

Ridding on Cooper STT Pros…….. not sure my vote counts. I’m not really driving it on the road, we’re running about 8psi on the trails. They’re pretty grippy so far. They’re 37 X 12.5 X 17’s
