What type of axle?

My brother has a 2001 regular cabe 2wd. His rear end blew up this afternoon. I am pretty positive that it is a 8.8, was there any other type of axle put in these trucks.

Is the truck a 4.0L? If not its very possible that it has the 7.5" rear end
