hi
What would be the trany in a 1987 2wd stx ranger 2.9L, manual trany is a 5 speed overdrive? Would this work behind a 1992 4.0L from an Aerostar?

my Aerostar trany just died and rebuilt one will cost 2050.00 Cdn plus taxes.

It would have to be a TK5. While you could bolt that to a 4.0L, I wouldn't recommend it. I'm distinctly unimpressed with that transmission.

1992 Aerostars are not hard to find in the junkyard anymore.

I'm assuming your Aerostar is 2WD. If it's a 4WD, no FN way. You need a 4WD transmission.

$2000 is a hair raising price for a rebuilt transmission. Is it worth a drive to Bellingham for $1000? (US and Canadian currencies are close to equal these days). Yeah, I know Prince George is a really long drive from there. Maybe even outrageous shipping might be worth it.

Couple problems with that. The aerostar manual trans had the shifter moved forward. The Rangers shifter would be behind you. The shifter could be rebent to rectify that.
The clutch hose is different.
The driveshaft is a different length.
