what trans fluid to use

I'm swichting from my junk A4LD to a manual transmission to A manual. my Dad told me that that I would need to use Auto trans fluid. and check the bands. My neighor told me hat a maual has no band and that you use gear oil. because if you use auto you will F--- the thing up. I was woundering who to believe.

ok That is what I thought My dad does not want me to fix it. Because The A4LD was rebuilt 4 times. He thinks it is a waste of time. But this was my grandpa truck. we are not ford people.althrough I will not let it go this easly.

T5 will be awesome. I too am on my 4th a4ld. Added a second cooler to my a4ld a shift kit and a temp gauge and so far it's held up well.

Most manual transmissions Now a days Use Automatic trans fluid and have NO bands. None of them do.

Your neighbor is correct about the bands but is INCORRECT about the fluid. Use automatic trans fluid.

Oops I missed the part where you said you're using a T5. I thought you were using an M5OD. Honestly I don't know what kind of fluid a T5 uses, but it's very likely it uses ATF, so make sure before you fill it.
