what to do?

Are you talking about taking the 4.0 with automatic and putting it in the one with the 2.9 and the stick-shift? I don't think he's looking to get that much involved in a project. He just needs something to haul dead deer around with.

You don't need an A1 engine (BII) or a perfect frame (91) to do that. I had a 2.8 for the better part of a year that had enough blowby would regularly push the dipstick out, it would have easily went out into a field and haul back a deer, even a cow if you could find a way to load it.

People haul deer on four wheelers,it doesn't take much of a truck to outdo a four wheeler.

I was just thinking he has the vast majority of the parts to do the 4.0 swap, in his position I would be very tempted to do it. He was wanting to play mix and match, either that or the BII trans with custom driveshafts are his only real options.

He might have to drive it on streets to where he's hunting.

And my bone-stock Honda Foreman 500 4x4 ATV will actually drag my 2WD 89 Ranger backwards in grass. Seriously. I figured that out one day when the ranger was spinning it's tires trying to drag an apple tree that a tornado ripped out of the ground. Hooked up the 4 wheeler instead and was able to do it. So later that day I got a friend to hop in the ranger and we did a tug-o-war, and the ATV was pulling the ranger backwards!

from what i understand the 91 truck with the bad tranny had that fail by loosing fluid and the guy driving it... it even grinds in neutral now. and would the bII tranny even hold up to the 4.0?

and the 2.9 liter is in MUCH better running condition then the 4.0, doesnt misfire, burn any fluids other than it should, and has less than half the mileage
