What the big secret I'm not privy too?

I've been trying to get this damn clutch hose to go back into the slave cylinder for quite awhile now... probably going on 2 hours or more. The stupid cotter pin will NOT go all the way through, and lock in the hose. What am I missing? What's the trick to doing this?

'87 Ranger 2.3, FM145 trans.

wiggle the conector while your putting in the pin with some plumer or wide opening pliers.
