I'm looking for a front sway bar for a 95 2wd. I had read the 2000 ish explorer front sway bar fit and was a good upgrade. Ordered a Addco 737 bar for a explorer and its 6" too wide. Assumed it would work...

Aftermarket options ive seen are other Addco bars or the Belltech 5445. I'd rather not order addco from SDtrucksprings again. They look almost a month to get me this wrong bar.

Do 1998-03 front bars work? The Belltech 5444 seems like what I really want. I'd prefer ends that are horizontal opposed to the stock 95 front bar that are vertical.

Any other factory sway bars of at least 1 1/8th fit the front of a 95?

Thanks

A 1-3/16” sway bar from an ‘89 STX would fit on a ‘95 2wd.

Not excusing the month wait, but it sounds like you ordered te wrong bar rather than them sending the wrong bar.

95+ Explorer front sway bars and 98+ Ranger front sway bars will not bolt on fit your truck, they are completely diffferent suspension designs. I'd like of like to know where you read otherwise, but no point starting a fight over it.

You will need bars for 1989-1997, and maybe 83-88 depending on how they mount. The former crossed the frame infront of the axle and attacked to a bracket where the radius arms connect to the beams. Some/most of the latter crossed under the radius arm crossmember and attached to the inside of the radius arms. I know the 93-97 bar can't be used easily used on the 83-88 2wd trucks, but I don't know if the same is true the other way.

I used an addco on my 84 back 20 years ago and it worked good, was going to match it with a BII rear bar, but totaled the truck first. Both are sitting on the shelf somewhere waiting for me to build another. I don't know if Addco or Hellwig still make anything for that generation, so Belltech 5445 might be your only option. Looks like the Belltech uses the factory end link setup so make sure you have the components for that.

You could consider going custom and adapting a universal race bar to fit. Don't know any thing about doing that, just that people use them for custom applications where nothing else is available.

1998+ front Ranger stabilizer bars come in 2 different basic versions, excluding bar size.
coils spring trucks have a bulge in the front frame for the upper coil bucket, those bars are 2" wider
than torsion type stabilizer bars.

a torsion type stabilizer bar will not fit a coil Ranger, it hits the frame.

Positive about this? It's been a few years since I was doing sway bar research, so I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the Roush front sway bar (for 98+ coil spring trucks) is just the Ford 4WD Ranger (torsion bar front end) part repackaged. My Roush bar fits my 2000 coil spring truck perfectly.

Hillbank used to sell all of the Roush stuff, and they confirmed the sway bars were simply a stock 4wd Ranger part, plus the stock rear sway bar (see posts 14-15 of this thread):

I've also pulled even larger bars from a 95-01 Explorer (Same torsion bar front end as Edge and 4WD Rangers) and held it up to check clearances against my 2000 coil spring truck and it passed the eyeball test just fine. I've still got it on my shelf, so I might be able to revisit it.

On this forum..... Also the Explorer bar I ordered would bolt up to the frame no problem. It's just too wide to use. I never said they sent me the wrong bar just that it was the wrong bar. They did however send me bushings and mounts for a .75" bar so even if this bar worked I wouldn't be able to use it still. Not SDtrucksprings fault as they just drop shipped it from Addco. Whoever packaged it clearly wasn't paying attention. Huge difference in 1.5" bar and .75 busings/mount. I should have went to the junk yard first and took measurements of various vehicles.

Again, where? If it's on here we can fix it so someone else doesn't have the same issue.

Of course it bolts up to the frame. That section of the frame rails was practically the same from 1983-2011 on the Rangers and that generation of Explorer shared a good portion of it's design with those Rangers. Bolting to the frame, but not bolting to the suspension is not what most of us would consider a bolt on fit. I have to say most of us because a few members (IE: @bobbywalter) seem to consider cutting and welding to still be bolt-on.

Where would I find information if my 96 Explorer 4.0 4wd would be a useful upgrade to my 93 4.0 4WD Ranger?

I've seen it said on other forums as well. Not specific on suspensions type but years. The one I ordered would work if it was just a little narrower. I'm not running stock suspension at all but do need a stock style sway bar. Running the stock sway bar now..

From the tech page you posted a link to:

The exception is the 95+ Explorers that switched to the SLA suspension. The SLA Explorers will only interchange with SLA Rangers.

Is this for the truck with the AJE front suspension?

Yes. Ordered Belltech 5444. Seems like a winner but still depends on the width. The Addco 737 is 40" long. Stock 95 2wd is 34" long. I can move the lower mounts if needed just cant be too wide or I run into the struts. I like the fact the 5444 for the 98 better than the 5445 for the 95 since it has ends that are horizontal not vertical.

Looks like the 5444 is intended for 98+ trucks that originally had control arms. It should be interchangeable with Explorer bars from 95+, and I'm not sure that I've seen them ever work on a 97 or older truck.

I'd be surprised if that new bar works any better than the last one unless the last place just screwed up and sent a bar for a different vehicle.

If the AJE kit is intended to work with a stock bar from an i beam Ranger, then you should probably be looking for bars from trucks that originally had i beams (97 and older) if you want direct fit/bolt in application. But if you're wiling to move the end link mounts on the control arms, then I guess about anything can be made to fit.

If it were up to me, I'd probably prefer a narrower bar to keep the end links more inboard and clear of wider tires. Will be interested to see what you end up with though! You can always find custom splined bars for around $200 as well. You'd just have to figure out the arms and end links.
