I'm gathering parts for my future project. I know a Ford 9" would be enough but just in case what else would be beefy enough for the 351 Windsor?

Ideas or anything else would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

What kind of 351?

A weezy 150hp 1970's boat anchor, 800hp with twins or somewhere in between?

Dana 80 minimum.

Pfff more like a Eaton DS404

What are you doing with it?

What do you have, 2wd or 4x4?

If your running 40,s get a floater.

Street stuff or under 35 in tires....8.8 might get it done fine.

Intention...data

An explorer 8.8 will take a lot more abuse than you think. Lots of junkyard LS/ebay turbo builds putting 5-700 hp through an explorer 8.8

This is basically your only option

It all depends on what your planning.

They used the 8.8 (31 spline) behind 351 F150s/Broncos from the factory.

Even the rangers factory 7.5 would hold for a while. But life depends on the power your feeding to it and the tires you got bolted to it.

I always wondered what the ratios were with the old 2-speed axles. wish something like that was offered now, in a lighter axle

Yes. Shifting to 8.11 on the trail could be handy. Of course there are doublers to put in the drive train. But having that function self-contained in the diffs would be nice.

The problem with a lighter axle is size. There isn’t much room to spare inside an 8.8.

It's gonna be a sleeper 2wd I want it to look sorta stock

I just need something that will be able to handle the 351w
