I plan on getting a new vehicle. Id like to start really looking at the start of the new year, then buy around march, but if a great deal showed up i would jump on it. Im just not sure which direction to go so id like your guys input. I want everything!! I eventually need a tow rig/pickup for my truck, but also want something for a daily driver. Just not sure what to get first.

Lightning lol. They are amazing trucks and not much bigger then a Ranger. Super fast and lots of mods available. Plus I have always wanted one. lol

I might be looking for a Duramax next year, around 2003-2004 depending on which engine I end up choosing. I want something bigger than my truck, and 4wd. Most vehicles that meet those criteria get around 18-20 mpg, so I might just go diesel (easier to haul the skid steer that way than with my dad's truck also).

It all depends on what you want, I like my 2.3 Ranger, get's pretty good mileage and has served me well. I can drive it around daily and get good mileage, then load it up and head out to camp. Mileage isn't too much worse than what I see advertised on many small/midsize cars, and I can't stand cars (my left knee hates getting into and out of cars) so it works out good for me.

yep, i know two people with them and ive drivin them both, pretty much same thing, ones chevy and ones gmc. the chevy's got a tuner, intake and exhaust and it rips so hard and hes gettin 21mpg i think, the gmc is stock but it still goes and gets 17-18mpg i think

Tow rig so you can come wheel with me in western Ma and NH.

where in NH do you wheel?? im origionally from there. if you ever travel up to maine theres an offroad park in Lewiston, the next town over from me.

(sorry to thread jack)

well my daily driver right now is a 94 saturn sl2. It gets about 30 mpg mixed. I plan on driving this until like march next year. Its a total college kid eyesore kinda car. I dont mind driving it now, but when i start looking/working at a real job i think ill be too embarassed to roll up in it. Most of my fixes are with drywall screws and duct tape. Its got almost 180,000 on it now, leaks/burns oil like a bastard. I want a good daily driver thats comfortable and is fun to drive. its gotta look descent if i go the ranger or mustang route. Leather seats is a plus. Ive also considered a fox body mustang, but i am picky as hell with those.

duramax's can come with leather lol. youd be able to smoke some wanna be ricers and still tow the ranger around:woot:

forgot to say, my price cap would probably be around 15k.

if i did get a truck now, it would be a nicer diesel for a DD. If i got anything else i would get a tower that wasnt as nice, and probably a gasser cause i wouldnt be using it much. It would be nice to have a DD tower that got decent mileage cause i would be killing two birds with one stone, but diesel isnt cheap, and to get a good one would be around 20k or more. And the diesel F-150 would be perfect, buts thats probably gonna be 40k!!! See why its so hard?!!?!?!!?

That's what I did. I knew I was going to be needing a tow rig, and was tired of the Ranger for a DD. Bought a nice Superduty diesel for a DD and tow rig. Don't regret it a bit. Parking that big sum bitch downtown kinda sucks, but you get used to it. I paid a good chunk less than 20K for mine, and it had only 78K when I purchased it. Just don't get in a hurry. Look around, wait for a good deal. I think those diesel F150's are going to be ridicously priced as you mentioned. I wouldn't hold my breath for one of those.

I'm probably going to be ignored for this, but I would recommend a PT Cruiser or an HHR (although I have never driven one). My PT gets constantly 500km/$60tank of gas (on empty), I can haul five people around when needed, I can take the rear seats out, and I have just as much room as my [first] Ranger did when it had the cap on. Parts are cheap as hell for them, and unless you're doing a timing belt or water pump, they aren't that bad to work on, they jut look bad. For a DD, I'd go with a small little car that meets the majority of your needs. The PT fit mine and aside from how the thing looks (at least its black and chrome with blacked out windows), I don't regret getting it, one bit. I picked mine up for $5500 with 150 000km on and it was all highway mileage.

Then to solve your problem for a tow rig, keep your eye out for an old beat up former work truck, doesn't have to look nice just as long as it can haul. An old Chevy from the early-mid 90's with the 350ci, bulletproof, and they're going for the $5000 and under mark here, with the 200000-250000km range. Get the gas pig and only use it when needed, and balm around in the city car the rest of the time.
