What should I do with it?

Hello everyone, ive been a lurker for awhile and finally created an account to get some input from you guys since I finally own a ranger.

I just picked up this 1993 STX regular cab short bed 4x4 4.0 automatic in great condition other than a little paint fade. The real cool thing is that it only has 38,XXX miles. Bought it from original owner with flawless carfax.

Now my reason of coming on here is I would like your advice on what I should do with it, either keep it or sell it? If I were to keep it, I would make it more off road worthy but not butcher it up. From what I gathered this year isnt the most rare or desired STX...but with its low mileage and slightly unique styling options(little goofy lookin too) I think its kind of a cool little truck.

I picked it up for a reasonable price that I know I can get back, but not sure what its true value is. Im sure you guys would have a better Idea what its actually worth than myself. This would influence me on if I would rather keep it to build/mess around with or make some quick cash. Any input/advice is appreciated. Thanks,
-Matt

Nice looking truck!

pitch the bug deflector,

Kinda up in the air about pitching the truck cap...

change out the auto hubs for manual hubs.
more aggressive tread tires/ bigger tires

There are more things out there that you can do, and I am sure you will get some feedback on that from other members, but the above is a good start, and will be fairly cheap to do except for the tires.

Start a build thread, and keep us up to date with pics and mods :)

And Welcome to TRS!

Thanks!

And ya it has the "old man" truck look to it with the deflectors/shell/mudflaps. But I also kind of think that leaving the looks alone would make an awesome sleeper with the right modifications.

I think it needs a lund visor.
I'm not sure what I would pay for it, maybe $2500-3500?

The very front of my hood is pretty chewed up from rocks, and is starting to look pretty bad. Honestly, I would have loved a bug deflector, if anything more for the rocks. I'd like one still just to hide the lumps and odd colors of paint.

Definately swap out to the manual hubs.

But before you get too crazy, just drive it!. After having done the wild and crazy build, I have a lot more respect for what things can do relatively stock. I mean, I learned a bunch, but I would have done things wayyy differently had I actually developed a plan specific to the truck and how I used it, paying attention to exactly what it did and didn't do well (darn excitable youth!). Driving and using it is the only way to accomplish it.

My 2wd is the latest to be getting the mods, and while some may question where I've gone and am going with it especially since my other Ranger has the V8 lol (see signature, also have an ARB locker for the front diff *grin*), it works for me. And it'll be different for everyone. Basically what I'm saying is, plan carefully and spend wisely. Money pits and never ending projects suck, especially when you actually finish and realize it still doesn't do what you want it to do.

Coming from the rust belt, finding reasonably priced vehicles that aren't totally screwed up from rust/salt is increasingly difficult. If you got a really nice deal on it, and have a use for it, I'd keep it.

As for real value, I don't have any idea lol.

Not really looking to trade, thanks for the offer though.
Well, my truck might be a better "off road worthy" platform, to begin with, than that one. The Edge has the (mild) lift kit and my Edge has 4:10 axles. If you change your mind, let me know.

I agree, I just need to drive it for awhile. Ive actually been enjoying just driving it to work the past week, it gets better mileage than my 4 door sierra, so thats always nice too!

I would actually prefer the TTB when it comes to off road, but I'll keep it in mind.

Auto trans, auto hubs, assuming electric transfer case, regular cab, it sounds pretty worthless to me.

HAha, same outlook my dad has. Well I do do. 3/3(everything but the regular cab) for problems
