I just bought my new project vehicle.

1994 Extended Cab 4.0L 4x4 with 5 Speed

I recently discovered that the previous owner decided to cut the catalytic converters off, in the process hacking apart the y-pipe.

So, I want/need to completely redo my exhaust.

I don't want this to cost am arm and leg, so, I am trying to find a used Y-pipe and cat. My question is, what RBV's used a similar set up that I could salvage the exhaust from....at least the the y-pipe and cats.

Thank you,

Joe

its againts the law to put a used cat on a truck you can get a universal one cheap from the parts store

Did the previous owner just put a length of pipe where the cats should be?

If so, I would just cut out a section and install a universal cat. They run about 50-60 bucks.

They did a hack job on the entire exhaust, crappy welds, poorly mounted. I want something like the original. I found a new direct fit cat from AZ for $120, I didn't think that was to bad. However, a new y-pipe is $100, so if I can get one salvaged it'd probably save some money.

My guess is that the most of the ford RBV's used the same general v6 y-pipe can anyone confirm this?

No, the 3.0 is for sure different. And I wouldn't bet much money that the 2.8/2.9 are the same either.

Best to stay with a OHV 4.0 Y-pipe, and try to stay as close to the year of your truck as possible incase they changed something. (like where the O2 sensors mount for example)

You are stuck on the Y-pipe. But the rest can come off of anthing almost. My 93 2.3 has a factory exhaust off a 99 4.0 suppercab on it now.

get the y-pipe and cats all together from the same truck and you can use anything from a 2.9 or 4.0 (maybe even a 2.8, but im not sure) the flanges between the cat and y changed several times but if you get it all from the same donor you will be fine

Thank you!

That was the info I was looking for!
