I cannot find what manual tranny comes in the Duratec equipped rangers. Does anyone have any info on this?

as far as I know its the same M5OD thats used in all the previous model rangers.

They have used a bunch of different manual trannys in them since '83, but the M50D is right for the Duratech.

So the M5od must be cast with two different bell housing patterns? One for the older 8 valve 2.3 lima and the second for the newer 16 valve Duratec. Does anyone have one of these they could take a picture of? I have an M5od for the early 8 valve engine and I don't see how it would have been updated to fit the duratec engine.

I didn't realize the Duratec had a different pattern from the Lima, but yes - the M5OD has been cast in several patterns to accomodate the different engine familes. One for the 2.9, one for the 4.0 (which is actually the same bolt pattern, but the gear ratios are different and the outside of the casting is visually different), one for the 3.0 Vulcan motors, one for the Lima 2.3/2.5's, and apparently one for the Duratec's as well.

i dont know if the duratec and lima are actually different patterns, i guess someone will need to chack on that who has access to both engines or both trannys

Yes, the Manual trans used is the same M5OD-R1 as has been used on everything since 1992 (and on everything except the 2.9 engine since 1988)

And yes, the bellhousing is different.

Well there goes the idea of a 4x4 duratec without being able to pull apart and reassemble an M5OD heh. Thankfully I like my lima with it's 4x4 tranny.

Thanks for clearing all that up. I should have known, I've played with the 2.9/4.0's before. I just never gave any thought to the fact that they were the same, so to speak.
