what makes a sport a sport?

im hopefully looking at a truck tomorrow, a 2000 ranger sport. What exactly is the difference between a sport and say an xlt. Is is just a matching grille, fancier wheels, and a stick that says sport? thanks

The Sport package is an appearence pkg that's an add-on to an XLT model.

Sport model for that year consisted of painted grille and bumpers and 16" alloys and of course the fancy sticker on the bedside. lol. Aaaaand that's about it. It replaced the Splash model in '99, and the Edge replaced the Sport model in '01. The 99-00 Sports are an add-on to XLT's....but 01-05 Edge and 06+ Sport land right in the middle of XL and XLT as far as basic to fully loaded.

The 4x2 version got 15" chrome styled wheels while the 4x4 got the nicer 16" alum ones. 4x2's got the 225/70 and the 4x4's got 245/75 tires. Fog lights on the V-6, color keyed wheel lip mouldings on the 4x4 and a tach was standard. That kind of completes what was said above.
