What maintenance should I do on an A4LD w/158k miles?

I recently purchased a 1994 B3000. I don't have good maintenance history on the truck, so I'm doing general preventative things to get a good starting point.

I don't know if this transmission has ever been rebuilt. It seems to shift okay, no serious issues. When I bought it I checked the existing fluid, it looked fairly clean and clear, slightly pinkish, not dark and burnt smelling.

What should I do to make sure I get the most miles out of it before I have to do a rebuild? Simple transmission fluid and filter change enough or should I do anything more elaborate?

If it's working fine, I'd just change the filter and fluid. Look for metal fragments in the pan that could mean trouble down the road. Black sludge on the pan magnet is normal due to clutch wear but there shouldn't be any big chunks in there. If it looks good, button it up and drive it. Not much else you could really do without tearing into it so You might as well wait until it dies!

Since it's a bit clean and not black then I would say that it's safe to change as well. Just be on the lookout for things like excessive metal shavings.

I don't mean to be Captain Negativity, but the best maintenance for an A4LD is to have an M5OD ready to go in.
