When you max out your torsion twist what limits the amount of lift?

Are you limited by the effective spring rate of the torsion bar?

Or does the shock limit the downward range?

you are limited because you lose downward travel of the wheel and when you compress the suspension if you max out the t-bars you can actually snap them

What I'd like to find out is what part limits the downward motion.

Don't know but if you jack up the truck and then disconnect the shocks you will find out for yourself. I would suspect one of the arms is contacting something that is stopping it though.

shock limits the downward movement. Take the shock off and the ball joints will max out as well. Lifting a truck by just adjusting stock torsion bars can make for a harsh ride and less than desired steering characteristics.

Too much cv angle is the big enemy with a tt. That and you lose all your downtravel...

Sounds like I will have to wait till I get home in November and I will look into this further.

i've got my bars torqued in for about 1.5" of lift and it rides less smoothly than stock, without a doubt. i looked into purchasing lifting keys to get the same amount of lift out of but retain the stock ride comfort. i believe that the keys limit much of the maximum lifting capability, i believe i read somewhere, might've been posted by jim oaks, that the geometry of them just don't work out for a lot of it.

speed bumps can be a little harsh at mid-speed but it handles well and has performed well off-road. i do have a slight camber issue though, that's never good. but it rode well to northern new york and back to florida.
