Hey guys, thanks again for the help.

Anyway, i was bored a few days ago and painted my faded grill with some cheap black spray paint. To my suprise it looks much better than i thought it would! Now i want to paint the bumpers and maybe re-do the grill, all in black.

Right now my bumpers are the gray color the match the unpainted gray fender flares and the used-to-be unpainted gray plasic grill.

My trucks a 1998, smoke gray in color.

What kinds of paint have you guys used? gloss? flat? should I not use spray paint at all?

I just want something that will last a year or 2, nothing car show worthy here.

I painted my 96 gray bumper (and made/painted a new rear bumper) when I painted my grill. Acrylic will not last long when the rocks hit it. Polyurethane may last longer, but durabak coating or duraliner may work best and longest. Either way, sand and prime very thoroughly to get the best finish. If you use paint, go flat to reduce seeing the rock chips in the bumpers.
I was inspired by a tech page article to paint my 96 grill white (matched my truck). I used acrylic spray paint, matched by the numbers from Walmart. I also used a spray clear coat.

Sand it, paint 3 coats, clear coat 3 layers.

i used high temp engine block paint (black) on my wheels. they were polished aluminum and i bead blasted them and preped them real good. its been 4+ months and no chips. good luck!

I've got flat black rustoleum on my front and rear bumpers I made. It's held up with no problems. I also will touch them up from time to time as well, but not very often.

I bought the cheap Wal Mart spray in bed liner coating. Thats some durable stuff. It survived a close encounter with a Ford Escort with only a couple small scratches.

At about 8 bucks a can it aint too expensive. Looks good too.

I painted my bumpers with bed liner, it's easy to touch up and seems to last well.

there is a rattle can flat black called "bumper and trim black" or something like that for flexible plastic parts at napa.

Depending on if the color is available I have actually have very successful uses of primer to paint steel bumpers, most recently on a 85 1/2 ton chevy which we used rattle cans on the whole thing

bumper paint

it is called tie coat.. it is an adheasion promotor specfically designed for painting plastic. your paint will adhear alot longer if you apply it first. you can paint many types of plastic with using it .. i bust bought a 93 extended cab and am building a street custom. all the plastic upolstry will be color matched to the body using it.
