what kind of mpgs you guys get

94 reg cab 3.0L 5 speed 3.73 gears 4x4 on 29"/31" mud tires gets between 18 mpg and 22 mpg depending on how much country/highway driving i do and if I ran with the hubs locked in. i also always have between 300-500 pounds of tools and spare parts/junk. i go past 5,000 rpm on a daily basis while accelerating and cruise about 2300-3000 rpm at speed. light or heavy foot does not affect mileage noticeably- all mileage is hand figured every fill up and tracked long term

I used to live near Paterson NJ (I80, Rt 23 & Rt 46 inter change). My commute was 13 miles down route 3 to Secaucus. I purchased my 02 Ranger Edge Extra cab 2x4 auto w/ 3.73 axle in August 2006 with 64K miles. My commute was stop and go (or more 10mph to 40 to 10 to 40) and as was 38 at the time I did not tend to hammer the gas. My mileage was extremely consistant at 12.5 - 13.5 winter and 13.5 - 14.5 the remainder of the year, and a straight highway of 20 - 21 at 68 to 72 mph. I have since found that 78 mph only drops my mileage to 18-19 and that the truck shifts less on the hills at that speed (I-88 west of Albany).

im haing a hard time finding a 95-up ext 2.3 manual ranger.

how is the 3.0 manual compared to the 2.3?

i do mostly in town driving never really getting above 50 so city mpg is what im concered with

obviously 2wd. dont need a 4wd right now.

thanks

My winter mixed driving on gasoline has been 19mpg, hwy has been 21mph. Currently averaging 17mpg mixed on E-85.

When i used to drive a city only route a year ago, with a stock 3.0L 5 speed 2WD, I would get between 17 and 18 MPG, during the hot months here in Miami it hit a low of 16 MPG, but only once. I calculated it the way you're supposed to, so I'd say that's probably what you would get. I have an extended cab, 06 model year...

I'll just throw it out there in case, my current drive is 80-90% highway and I consistently get between 21 and 22 MPG. After adding the few mods I've done it has been hitting closer to 22 and when I'm real lucky, 23 MPG.

It'll drop down to 19 MPG if I start doing 50/50 city/highway.

it depends on how i drive, but i usually get somewhere between "holy shit i need to buy a bike" and "f*ck, there's goes $50 i'll never see again"

i think the wife and i are gonna start carpooling to work tho, so that'll save me some $$$, she gets 28-30 a gallon in town

i get about 20 in the city and 23 on the highway if i don't go over 60mph if i go faster i can watch it drain i got 26mpg towing a nautique at 55 on the hw with i also have 31's

I have a 94 ext. cab with a 2.3, open 3.73 and 5 speed trans. The tires are cooper cobras, P255 R60 or something close to that. Let me be the first to tell ya, the gas mileage is horrible IMO. I bought it for similar reasons. I figured, ah it's a four cylinder, it can't be that bad! Well I was wrong. I forgot to figure in power to weight ratio. Best i've ever seen is 26.3 and while that is pretty good I've only seen that once since i've owned the truck, which is close to three years now. On average its 20-23mpg. Now that it's winter i'm averaging about 14-18mpg. Thats worse than my V8 Firebird. To add insult to injury its SLOOOWWW. It has no balls in 4th or 5th gear. Don't even bother thinking about passing someone. Turn on the A/C and hope that you don't have to go up hill. I rev the crap out of it too, as it performs better up high. With that said I get the best MPG when I keep it around 2k. On the flipside, My friend has an auto 3.0 2001 4x4 edge and he's reporting 22-23 on the freeway, 21 if he's in 4x4 high. That pisses me off something fierce since he's got options like cruise control, power windows, acceleration and the same MPG as my pos. Because of this, it's either get a new truck like his (make mine a stick) or switch to an economy car like a Cavalier. What do you guys think of this truck?

i have a 5spd 87 BII with 4wd and a 2.9v-6 and i get 21+ mixed driving at 70mph... the 3.0 doesn't make any power till you get high in the rpm band... so that is why it gets such lousy gas mileage... the 4.0 does just as well if not better...
