well i have a 1988 ranger lifted and everything its a great truck. im looking for a newer relibable vehicle probably a small car 2003-2009 im not really sure what to get im thinking eather a 2 door cobalt 4cyl 5speed or a tiburon SE 5speed. If you were buying a small car for the MPG what would you buy?
also anyone no what a 2.2L cobalt gets for gas milage compared to a 2.0L tiburon?

Late model small car with decent mileage?

Depending on how important mileage is to you, either a Prius (you really can't beat them), or a Mini Cooper.

I just bought a 1990 Jetta since the wife insists on decent mileage and four doors, and that's about the best compromise out there (it's getting 30+ MPG and needs a tune up).

$36,000 for a prius that gets 49 mpg. $1500 for a 93 saturn SL2 with a 5spd gets 37 mpg........... take alot of miles to make up the cost of the Prius.

for the best mileage, I would get a Golf TDI. 55+ mpg.

I'd recommend a Saturn, but then I'm biased; mine's been a great little car and gets 36mpg commuting, up to 45mpg on the highway. Just won't win ya any races! :3gears:

My 2008 Cobalt Ls. is a bone stock 5 speed coupe. I live in SW. Pennsylvania, and in the city, I get no less than 30 mpg. On the highway, I've seen as high as 36 mpg @ 65-70 mph. Although If you need to haul people in the back often, I'd get the 4 door. I've put 12,000 miles on it since last December, and I haven't had a problem with it. I love that little bugger.

On the cost/benefit, I'll agree with you there. But that wasn't the question. There is a reason I just bought a $1300 VW (aside from not liking radiator caps or check engine lights....).

The Golf is a Diesel. Diesel prices are quite a bit higher than gasoline prices, at least at the moment.

I would buy a Focus or a Civic. Both are good cars that get good mileage, with the Focus being the cheaper of the two. I'm not a big fan of Hyundai and most all of the Chevy cars are throw away.

id like a mk4 1.8T golf or tdi jetta,my girlfriends 04 aveo gets around 36 average and is a 5spd...the only reason i drive it lol

The Cobalts are pretty fun little cars. at work last winter I became a pretty experienced "precision Driver" in one of these cars. Light+good handling+handbrake, Minus traction= Good times. Pretty decent mileage. at least 30.

I had a Focus 5-speed wagon that was really handy for hauling things and just getting around. It might have only gotten 32 mpg but you have to make you choice between a real dog as performace or something more suitable for what you want.

hands DOWN a prius!!!!! cuz when you drive by it screams Iammmmmmmmmmmm gayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy;missingteeth;

would prolly have to go with a focus... very cheap..

A subby like Ken Block's. Or any other small car that can still get out of its own way or out of the way of any big honking SUVs that want to run to run over the smaller cars.

yeah but a $300 conversion and it will run Veggie oil, which is free in most places.

my uncle gets 60+ with is 84 turbo diesel rabbit. the cost of diesel would balance with the extra mileage right now that wouldn't be so like when diesel was $1.75 more a gallon.

Well for getting a car as small as they come go with a Smart. Some come available with a diesel and get 70mpg highway. Just not sure actually if they can be had in the U.S. You'll definitely get great mileage turn some heads, though maybe not in the way you expected.

Fucus w/manual trans (spelling correct). I hate Mazdas but, closest thing you can buy to a real vehicle.
Kind of like the president, He will probably cause WWIII but, what the heck he's afro-american: lets vote for him!:icon_confused:
