what kind of coating is on my wheels

OK well i have since painted my wheels and I'm over them time to go back to silver soooo once school comes back around ima gonna throw these suckers in the cabinet and blast the shit out of them =] or I'm gonna dump them in the hot tank any way if i blast them I'm gonna end up sand blasting them not media or bead blasting them so there gonna have a little less than desired finish soo what kin i do to bring them up to like a semi gloss finish kinda like what they have now just cleaner =] thanks guys

You can't hot tank aluminum....

Use aircraft stripper to remove the paint and the clear coat. Polish them and re clear them.

I've heard that about hot tanking aluminum, why is that? I've never gotten a good answer.

i got a duplicolor paint that matches the paint on the ford rims and the stx bright bar package.....its called high performance wheel coating, medeum gray in color top. should match the paint to oem

The caustic solution will eat the aluminum.

thats what iv heard but what if i left them only in there for like 30 min or 60 min as aposed to overnight or a few days

The aircraft stripper will remove everything on the rim down to bare aluminum very quickly without damaging the aluminum itself. IIRC when you put aluminum in the hot tank, it messes up the caustic solution in the tank and it will have to be changed out. I doubt you will find anyone that will let you put an aluminum part in their hot tank.
