Found this hose hung up on another hose near the intake manifold and not attached to anything. The truck runs fine and doesn't seem to miss the part. But it must go somewhere. What is it? Thanks
Check the plastic tube that comes from the vapor canister (rectangular box near the drivers side of the radiator) over to the underside of the intake manifold.
There's an 'ell' pointing to the brake master cylinder reservoir on the underside, nearish to where the throttle body attaches to the upper intake.
Actually, there are two. One for the vapor recovery system, and one for the PCV feed to the intake. On the plastic, there is/was a 'lump' that connected the plastic to the rubber which was slipped over the barbs of the ell. I think.
Maybe a picture in better focus... I cannot tell if the hose is semi-hard plastic, but if it is, that was used for the vapor recovery.

Thanks-I'll look as soon as I wake up a bit. Sorry for the focus but it's probably the best I could do with my phone as my digital camera just recently croaked. It's soft rubber hose and can be blown through. If it has anything to do with the smog I wouldn't really know as this area is smog exempt (small population) & know very little about it all
I thought my eyes were doing tricks on me or the tile background was causing me to loose focus.
My first inkling was the evap canister connector also but they were on the front of my truck by the rad so the hose was pretty long and went straight from the canister to the opening on the intake where the fumes could be drawn in and burned off with the startup.
Mine was about 30" long and that image didn't allow me to determine that...those tiles must be smaller than 12" for that to be in scale...
I give up-who cares? The truck is running great and that thing has been disconnected forever. The hard plastic tube from the canister is there and intact. This thing is 3/8" water hose, with the end piece being about 4" in circumference and 1 3/8" long. Has a small hole in the end fitting which reduces the pressure in the 3/8" hose. I'm including an out of focus (played with the stinking phone camera & editing software for an hour and couldn't get it decent) pic of the connecting end.
If you can't help don't worry about it. I'm not. Thanks
P. S. As an afterthought I remembered having to disconnect a hose for the wiper fluid when I mistakenly bought a new wiper motor that didn't have the windshield cleaner feature. Could that be it?
Can't make out what it is by that pic either...looks like it should connect to something but nothing that I can remember from my 88 looked like that. Maybe an earlier version of something that they upgraded or eliminated by the time I bought my truck.
As long as it is running and no hiccups or excess fuel consumption I'd say you were good to go...but stuff like that used to bother me more for knowing why it was there than whether it actually worked properly.
My truck was so hacked by the previous owner that it took me almost two years before I gave up on trying to restore it and buy something that I knew was mostly complete and functional.
The more I think about the more convinced I am that it has something to do with the fluid for the windshield. Right now I'm burping the system-so boring
The only thing I can think of is the small vacuum reservoir that was hanging from the upper vacuum manifold. At the top of the upper intake on my 85 is a manifold with about 8 vacuum ports. It has a buncha tubes plugged in. And an item about 1.5" in diameter, about 4" long. I understand it is a reservoir to run the EGR... ?? It just hangs, and was wrapped in black tape(until very recently) as a 'package' kind of hidden alongside the upper right near the EGR.

Yeah, I have that part just hanging there. My part is about the same in appearance-well, not really. It's about half of the length and foam type material. I did a Google image search for all '86 water/air hoses and it's not there.
Actually I've given up. Everything works just fine but similar to what Mark88 said it just bugs me because I don't know what it is. Oh well, thanks for trying
