This part is located in the driverside wheelwell of my 93 Ranger XLT 4x4. It looks like it MIGHT be an engine mount component. What is it?:

I had my son start the engine as i watched and it moved! Must be engine mount damping...

yeah, its just a shock absorber. probably worn out and not doing much at this point.

its to absorb vibration from the engine so the engine can move slightly when its running instead of shaking the hell out of your truck

If this site needs people to help explain what a dampener is. Then...We need a lot of help.

Good luck

As my auto repair instructor told me, The only stupid question is one that isn't asked.
A young lady the other day asked me what a tie rod end was. If you've never asked the question before, you don't know.
The worst part is, it took me a minute to figure out how to explain it to her. Haven't had to do that before!!

In my...well, let's just say LOTS of years owning dozens of vehicles, my Ranger is the very first one to have this little feature. It isn't a bad question to ask at all. And even if it was a bad question, it isn't a bad thing to answer someone without trying to make them feel stupid and if you can't do that, maybe you are the one that needs help.:icon_thumby:
