Can someone tell me what this goober is? & what it does?
86 2.9 4x4 stick. It is mounted on the passenger side next to the fuel pump & other relays.
It has 2 vacuum lines bottom & electrical top.
Why do I care?
When I shut off my truck, it sounds like it is bleeding off vacuum pressure, sort of a kazoo sound. It lasts for 15 or 20 seconds then gets quiet.
Is that good,.. bad,.. or indifferent?

According to the manual....that there "do-hickey" is a ECRC solenoid. mine was making the same/similar noise....I did change mine and have not heard from it since....I also changed the vacuum lines (the green and red)...I suspect they were the bigger issue with vacuum leaks....hard plastic can get small crackes in it & won't tolerate a lot of handling

it is a control for your EGR valve
I've swapped 2 junk yard ones booth make the sound

Before I changed my motor I had one of those same noise car ran good so I didn't care. But it liked to do it best next to really nice 4x4's and gets you funny looks.
