Hi.

I looked over my motor today and found this.

Can anyone tell me what this is for?
It seems to fit into the back of the driver side valve cover.
How is it attached, or locked in place?

Thanks for your help.
Olivier

PVC valve. It twists into the back of the valve cover.

Thanks for the feedback.

I tried to work on it a little today and I think I might have a little bigger problem.
I detached the PCV valve from the cooling hose so I can replace it, when I tried to fit it in the valve cover, it just spins and doesn’t lock in.
I checked the valve cover and there are no dimples that are supposed to latch with the valve.
Do I have to replace the entire valve cover now?

This is getting a little frustrating since the truck has a lot more problems than I thought.

Thanks for your patience and help.

It has been a while since I replaced one. But I recall it's usually just a friction fit with the rubber grommet on the valve cover. If you have enough pressure in the valve cover to push it back out, you have a problem.

One thing that gets a lot of people who aren't used to wrenching is that relative to you you have to turn things backwards to loosen/tighten them when they are facing away form you. Did you try spinning it both directions?

Yes, I did.
Either way it doesn’t lock and continues to spin.
Would it be a problem if I just RTV it in for now and fix it later?
It doesn’t seem to affect how the engine is running right now.
I have the check engine light on, but it’s related to the EGR.
Could both issues be linked?

Thanks.

If you can get RTV to hold I don't see why that would be a problem.

I also can't see how your PVC valve not wanting to lock in could be related to an EGR issue.

Hi.

Thanks for the help.
I'll try to 'fix' it before buying new valve covers.
