I posted previously about my cars clutch slipping this is not related this is about my Mazda.

Got a brand new clutch with about 1k miles on it. Probably less. If I park on any kind of hill and put it in gear first or reverse. And get out it'll start to roll away. Feels similar to when you turn and engine over by hand and it passes tdc. I mean it hardly takes any hill. I'm pretty sure its turning the engine.

Thought maybe it was compression. But this thing runs like a raped ape. Its got tons of power even with heavy rims with 31x10. 5 6 ply tires.

Was going to rent a compression tester. Any thoughts?

Its low compression in the engine. My 1999 Dodge Ram would do the same thing, its just the engine turns over extremely easy not enough engine pressure to hold it still. That's what the parking brake is for FYI.

My '94 4.0l with 170psi average will hold on a modest hill(I wouldn't trust it though), but not anything steep.
I use the PB and also turn tires to wedge against curb.

My parking brake works when it wants to which is 1 of 1000 times

A short piece of 4" x 4" wooden fence post used as a wheel chock works for me. Brakes tend to freeze on in the winter time around here.

My 4.0l will hold the truck on a modest hill. Yours should do the same. Maybe if you jack the rear up in 2wd, you can see if when you spin the tires the motor spins. Just need a buddy to watch it or put a dab of paint pen on the serp belt to see it move. I doubt your compression is that low without having problems running.

And the PB works when properly installed...

I've also learned the hard way that you don't drive through deep water with drum brakes and then set the PB when it's below freezing...

mine wont hold a grade, period. higher mileag and all, I have no e-brake. no rear brakes at all come to think of it. It is the engine turning over, nothing slipping.
