went to help my brother in law last weekend replacing the m5od in an f150. so we get both out and the good truck has a 1356 transfer case but the donor has something else. donor was a 90 f150 and the cases are totally different. one case is smooth and the other is finned the 1356 has a slip yoke for the rear driveshaft and the finned one has a captive yoke. any idea what the captive yoke case is?

If it came out of a 90 with a small block, odds are good it's an NP205.

That's a BW case that you posted pics of.

Your other one look like this any?

Go check the transfer case ID article at BOT.

I'm pretty sure you have posted pics of a BW1345.
