Hello everyone,
I am new to this form and have been searching for some answers regarding front lockers but i have not really found anything that will help me.
First I will tell you the vehicle
2008 ford ranger 4x4 supercab sport.
The next thing would be the application I would be using the vehicle in. It really burns my balls when I am out in the field or in the snow trying to drive and the truck get stuck in a big flat open spot. I look out the window and see one wheel spinning in front and one in back. Err 4x4 my butt more like 1x1. Anyway I have seen lots about the 8.8” rear and the options are all over the place but I have not found much talking about this year’s front end. I do not need a full locking front end and a helicoil limited slip would serve me just fine and be easy enough on the stock equipment I shouldn’t have to worry about breaking anything.
So my question is what people think about this and is there some information I can get about doing this.
Thank you all very much

usually a selectable locker is preferred in the front axle of most trail rigs. a locker in the front can limit turning and can add additional stress to parts that a rear locker doesn't. the electric or air lockers are very expensive to be sure, but your best option usually. that way, you can turn it off when not needed. i'm not a big fan of selectable lockers in the rear axles, but they appear to be the best bet for the front axles... imho.

Does the 2008 Ranger sport have a Dana 35 front or is it a different make?

yes Dana 35 front. I always recommend locking the rear first, then front, but others have different opinions.

For the money, you cant beat a lunchbox locker, whether it be a lockright or aussie. Plus these can be isntalled without re-setting up the gears.

La creme de la creme of auto lockers is a detroit, but be prepared to shell out some coin.

As said, selectable lockers are preferred up front, but will cost you your left leg, your sons left leg, and his sons left leg. They are EXPENSIVE.

take from this what you want.

weld it, it'll last long enough till you go solid axle. LOL :-)
