What happens if I cut this?

On this pic it is labeled V1. I have 1 located at V2 and suspect it is the DRL curcuit. If I cut it and am wrong, am I screwed? It is my DD.

Snip one leg, halfway up the exposed metal. If it's wrong, you can re-solder it.

DLR?

As mentioned you can cut and re-solder if needed.

What type of component are you expecting? Look like a MOV (transient protector) or a capacitor.

It is an '07. No easy fix. I was informed by a smarter guy than me (Matteo) that this probably will not achieve the desired results. I put it all back together and when it gets warmer I'll pull it apart again and try something else.
Sucks, you have to pull it apart, do something, put it back together and if it doesn't work, pull it apart and put it back before trying something else.

OH, BTW... using the parking brake to shut off DRL's works great, except for the brake light on the dash and the dinging to remind you your brake is on.

Just a thought here, and I know this isn't as cheap as opening up modules and cutting things, but it might be more effective/less frustrating.

Go to the dealer and get them turned off. The DRLs are one of the items that can be modified in the Personality settings. It's under Module Reprogramming, Programmable Parameters.

I know that adsm, that has been discussed... HOWEVER in the American Spirit, I want to do it myself, know how it works and correct the issue myself. THEN I can pass this information on and seem far smarter than I actually am because I happened onto the 'secret'.
This has been a looooong cooooold winter and I am getting bored waiting for it to warm up. I can pop out the SJB and study it in front of the computer in the warmth of the house.

Cutting a capacitor that is probably parallel with the control circuit of the relay that runs the DRL will do nothing but cause problems. I'm not sure but it could either keep electric spikes or keep the relay from chattering. Either way not a good idea.

I can understand wanting to do it yourself, but I fail to see how the DRL system being functional constitutes an "issue".

That's about on par with the Aveo I looked at today because the steering wheel locks up if you turn it too far with the key out of the ignition.

Looking at the diagrams for the 07 Ranger I am not sure I see a good way to disable to DRL system in the hardware. It looks like anything other than cutting the power into the DRL driver will also disable the low beams, regardless of the headlight switch input. And even disabling the DRLD looks dicey because it is looped into the power for the headlights.

i hate how the newer stuff connects multiple things into the same circuit. at least on both the old S-blazers ive had, there is a fuse for just the drl's. pull fuse-no drl's!

Thing of it is, it's less hardware and less complex. Now it's just multiple inputs going to the same module, telling it to turn something on or off.

Yes, it makes it harder to make physical modifications to achieve a given goal, but most of the things people are trying to turn on or off can be done in the software instead.

I remember when my niece was going to marry a guy in Kentucky and she wanted to bring her Ford Winstar down there...they told her she had to disable the DRL because they were illegal in Ky...she took it to a dealership and they simply unplugged something under the hood...and charged her $100 for doing that...

Did they make them legal or is the truck from Canada?

Mark, It was a fleet truck and from what I heard, they were all setup with DRL's... my SJB says Canada on it.

The "issue" ADSM, is I don't want them on. They are not illegal so it is MY choice. I have gone thru the board and tried various things. The only thing that did disable the DRL's also took out the lo-beams. I guess I go shell out $50 to the Ford tech. *sigh*
