what gauges are absolutely necessary for a turbo? boost, A/F, ????? what else do i need? im lookin to turbo my 2.9 ranger as kind of a practice to get the basics down. i already have the turbo and am going to get some 24lb injectors and a 190lp fuel pump. im doin it to do it just to see if i can do it.

all advise a wisdom that is shared is greatly appreciated.

good luck on turboing the 2.9. it will go boom real fast if it isnt right. you should talk to 12secondsuv. i think that is the name. he turbo'd a 4.0 with stock internals. give him a pm and see what he says. the general thought about a turbo 2.9 is dont. get a bigger motor or get a 2.3 and turbo that. but if you really want to go that route, he is the guy you need to talk with.

although im not a turbo..same kinda deal...once you get to the gauges, boost and A/F are probably first on the scale..then i would go fuel pressure (which i did) and i also put oil pressure in my truck cause i felt that was kinda important

i know that turboing a 2.9 will make it go boom. im doing it as practice for my mustang. rather blow up the ranger than my mustang

well the bottom end of a north american 2.9 is the same as the Europe 2.9..and with those in the scorpions are getting more power...there is even the DOHC vertion

i'm kinda thinking bout this route as well. my 300zx twin turbo got me addicted to boost and the stock turbo's are cheap and readily available. i'd look into a fuel pressure, A/F wideband, not narrowband, they are just good for cool color changes. also a oil pressure gauge should be neccesary.

if you boost before your oil heats up to op temp, you can blow it up quick. spin bearing, etc.

if your A/F goes outta wack, it will go boom, if your oil temp goes sky high, it will go boom.

just keep your eyes on things and keep the boost low and you should be fine!

High oil temps are actually often a sign of pinging. The pistons heat up really hot and the oil coming off the bottom of the pistons is superheated.

oil temp, A/F, boost, i already have a oil pressure gauge, what about the fuel system? would the 5.0 injectors be better than the stock? i,m using a t/c auto turbo and the ic. any other recommendations or any other things i should watch out for?

too much fuel i just had a friend wash his cylinders out on his 2.3 t and now his motor has to come back apart so black smoke really isnt that good

Bigger injectors do you absolutely no good unless you have a way to tune. Do you have a way to tune?

at the moment no. i was thinking about getting a jegs chip. but im not sure.

A mail order chip really won't do you any good.

Here are a few tuning solutions, you just have to make sure you have a supported ECU. If you don't have a supported ECU, swap ECUs.

Then you have to learn to use the stuff...
