Hey guys, i have a 91 ranger that i have the M5OD-R1 5speed stick in. I'm swapping trannies since mine is shot fir now. I know it's supposed to have auto trans fluid in it. But that seems to beca bit thin to me. Is there something better? Let me know what you recomend.

Supposed to have Mercon in it. Some have mixed mercon with other 'blends'.

I'd just stick with what the maker calls for. Safe that way.

Yep regular Mercon (a.k.a. "Dex/Merc") is what the M5OD requires. Anything thicker may not lubricate it properly due to the tight tolerances within it.

You could also use something like Synchromax (Royal Purple) in it too. I put that in my BII's M5OD hoping it might improve shift quality a little, which it did help, though not by as much as I had hoped for (I think someone may have put Mercon V fluid in the trans before I got it).
