What first gen has?

are they all compatible? what mods would I need to do?

Dana is a brand, not an acronym. they make the front axle on a 4x4 ranger.

8.8 or 7.5 is the diameter of your ring-gear in inches.

your ranger has a ford 7.5 rear axle.

Hep is right on all counts.

You have a rusty old open 7.5 rear end and a Dana 28 up front. L/S is nice for some things like traction in bad spots with snow and ice, but you lose about 1 or 2 MPG to it. It can also cause a nasty chattering noise when going through turns after the clutches wear out.

I have an 8.8 LSD that I want to go through and replace the clutches before I put it in the truck. I'll bring it up and we can tear through it so you can get a good look at the guts.
